We drink a lot of water in my household that originates from the faucet.

Water bottles, coffee, protein shakes, sparkling water, recipes (that require water) — the H2O flows daily.

My family is very conscious of what we put into our bodies. Don’t get me wrong, I love ice cream and pizza occasionally. But, we scrutinize our drinkable water because it’s something that goes into our bodies all day, every day.

Epic Water Filters filter out 99.9% of contaminants

My wife and I found Epic Water Filters brand a few years ago and realized quickly their products are top-tier. I own the Pure Dispenser, Pure Pitcher, and have went through many replacement filters (many of them free thanks to their recycling program).

Here’s everything you need to know.

Why I Filter My Water

Drinking clean water, free of contaminants, is extremely important to me and my family. Can I have that peace of mind without a quality filter? My answer is a resounding no because of the data from my local tap water via EWG.org (Environmental Working Group).

In my area, 16 total containments were found and 5 exceeded EWG guidelines such as 1,3-Butadiene, Chromium (hexavalent), and Haloacetic acid. And though my area receives a general passing grade, legal limits of contaminants haven’t been updated in 20 years. EWG keeps this “legal compliance” in perspective:

Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.

Long story short, I firmly believe in filtering your drinking water. And Epic Water Filters is THE brand to help me do that.

Why I Trust Epic Water Filters

Epic Water Filters is more than just a product line — it’s a mission-driven company that aligns with my family’s values. Here’s why I trust them:

  • Removes up to 99.9% of tap water contaminants – including fluoride, lead, PFAS (Forever Chemicals), chlorine, chromium 6, and microplastics (see test results)
  • Produces up to 150 gallons of clean water per filter – that’s equivalent to replacing 1,000+ landfill-bound plastic bottles.
  • Independently certified – their filters exceed NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, 401, and P473. Certified both in lab and field testing.
  • Filter recycle program – Send back your used filters and Epic rewards you with a new one. More on that below!
  • Sustainable & eco-conscious – Compostable packaging, minimal plastic use, and community efforts like creek cleanups.
  • Made in the USA – Local manufacturing for quality control and environmental responsibility.

Epic’s mission is to deliver high-quality, safe water while also reducing the environmental impact of single-use plastics. That’s something this Dad can get behind.

Who should buy Epic Water Filters?

Epic Water Filters are a great fit for:

  • Families who want cleaner, better-tasting water without a full-home filtration system
  • Renters or apartment dwellers who can’t install under-sink filters
  • Environmentally-conscious consumers who want to reduce plastic waste
  • People with health concerns around fluoride, chlorine, PFAS, and microplastics in their water

Let’s jump into reviewing the 3 products I use daily.

Epic Water Filters Reviews of 3 products

In this review, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on these 3 Epic Water Filters products:

Let’s start with Epic’s Pure Pitcher with fancy and very aesthetically pleasing, bamboo handle.

Pure Pitcher w/ Bamboo Handle

The Epic Pure Pitcher is a sleek, modern pitcher that removes fluoride, heavy metals, and other common contaminants from tap water. It’s perfect for everyday use and families who want clean water directly from the fridge.

Replacement Filters

Regardless if you’re using Epic’s Dispenser or Pitcher, replacement filters are needed to ensure the product continues to perform its proper filtering.

You can buy them individually, or save some money and get a 3 pack.

New Design! 3 holes vs 1 hole

Super important detail to prevent any confusion! Epic recently redesigned their filters sometime in 2024. ALL filters now have a single hole in the filter. You’ll see in my video below that I’m showing the old design (3 holes), but it functions exactly the same as the new design (1 hole).

Pure vs Nano filters: What’s the Difference?

The pitcher, dispenser, and filters I’ve reviewed above use the Pure filter. But, Epic Water Filters offers another type of filter called the Nano.

Both filters are NSF/ANSI tested and deliver up to 150 gallons of clean water, but the Nano is designed for more advanced microbiological protection.

  1. “Pure” filter: targets contaminants like fluoride, chlorine, lead, and forever chemicals—ideal for municipal tap water
  2. “Nano” filter: adds protection against bacteria, viruses, and cysts, making it a better choice for well water or uncertain water sources.

Key Note: Both filters (Nano & Pure) now have a single hole (image credit: Epic Water Filters blog)

The Nano replacement filter will be a dark filter (gray) than the Pure replacement filter (white), see the visual comparison below:

How to replace the filter (on both Pure & Nano pitchers or dispensers)

Regardless if you need to replace a Pure or Nano filter, the process is the same.

Epic Water Filters Pitcher review changing filter
A simple twist and turn takes the filter on/off with ease

If your filter tracker shows zero days left, it’s time for a replacement. These filters last 2-3 months, and it’s a snap to replace. Here’s a quick step-by-step to swap out your old filter for a new one. I show you these steps in my 90 second video above.

  1. Take the Dispenser or Pitcher apart.
  2. Remove the old filter. Twist the old filter counterclockwise to detach it. Be mindful that it may still hold some water and contaminants, so place a towel underneath to catch any spills.
  3. Unpack the new filter. Take the new filter out of its plastic packaging. Ensure the rubber gasket is securely in place, as this is crucial for a proper seal.
  4. Clean the Dispenser or Pitcher. Before installing the new filter, wash the dispenser with mild dish soap and rinse it thoroughly. This prevents any residue from affecting your fresh filter.
  5. Install the new filter. Align the new filter with the grooves and rotate clockwise until it’s firmly secured.
  6. Reset the filter tracker. Hold the start button for a few seconds until the tracker resets to 90 days.
  7. Fill with water & dump first gallon. Refill the dispenser with water and allow it to begin filtering, then dump the first gallon before drinking (as Epic recommends) to flush out any loose carbon particles or manufacturing residue.
