As a dad who recently jumped back into collecting Michael Jordan cards after decades away from the hobby, I’ve learned pretty quickly that protecting your graded cards is just as important as finding them.
This Slab Armor case review is a little different because I tested both of their most popular options:

Pros and Cons
Here’s a quick breakdown of what Dad liked, and what can be improved about these graded card storage cases.
What I Liked
- Excellent build quality – Both cases feel sturdy without becoming unnecessarily heavy thanks to the aluminum construction.
- TSA-approved lock – This is one feature I honestly hadn’t seen on competing graded card cases and makes these especially attractive if you fly with your collection.
- Supports multiple grading companies – While designed around PSA slabs, I successfully tested Beckett, CSG, BCCG and SGC.
- Foam divider system – The adjustable dividers keep slabs snug and make organizing by player, team or sport incredibly easy.
- Two sizes for different collectors – Whether you want to carry 40 cards or 160+, Slab Armor has a case designed for your collection.
What Can Be Improved
- Fusion isn’t ideal for SGC collectors – SGC slabs fit, but they’re noticeably tighter than PSA slabs.
- Not intended for one-touch holders, toploaders, cardSavers – Not necessarily a con, but while they fit, these cases are clearly optimized for graded slabs.
Quick Verdict
After testing both models, I came away impressed with Slab Armor as a brand. The build quality is excellent, the TSA lock is a genuinely useful feature, and both cases kept my slabs secure during testing. If you primarily collect PSA slabs, either case is an easy recommendation — it simply comes down to how many cards you need to carry.

Dad’s 5 Key Features
After testing both Slab Armor cases with multiple grading companies, these are the five features that stood out the most.
1. Premium Aluminum Construction
Both cases strike a nice balance between durability and portability. Even the larger Fusion case feels surprisingly lightweight considering it can carry more than 160 slabs. The aluminum shell, reinforced corners, sturdy handles, and rubber feet all contribute to a premium feel that gives confidence when transporting valuable cards to shows or storing them safely at home.
2. TSA-Approved Combination Lock
This was probably the biggest surprise for me because I hadn’t seen another graded card case with this feature. The built-in three-digit combination lock is easy to set, but the real advantage is the TSA master-key access if you’re flying.
Dad Tip: If you ever travel by air with graded cards, a TSA-compatible lock can save your case from being damaged if airport security needs to inspect your luggage while you’re not present.
3. “Fusion” 4-Row: Built for Serious Collections
The Fusion is clearly designed for collectors with growing collections. Holding roughly 160 PSA slabs across four rows, it makes organizing by player, set, grading company, or sport incredibly simple. The included foam dividers let you customize each row while helping minimize movement during transport. If your collection keeps expanding, this is the model I’d recommend first.
4. One-Row: Perfect for Card Shows
The smaller one-row case became my favorite option for taking cards to local shows. It’s compact, lightweight, and easy to carry around all day without feeling bulky. It still offers the same premium construction and TSA lock while giving you enough room for roughly forty graded cards.
Dad Tip: Instead of carrying your entire collection to every show, load only the cards you’re planning to buy, sell or trade. It’s lighter, easier to manage, and gives you one less thing to worry about while browsing dealer tables.
5. Compatibility With Multiple Grading Companies
Although Slab Armor designed these cases around PSA slabs, I wanted to test more than what the product page claimed. I loaded PSA, Beckett, CSG, BCCG, and SGC slabs into both cases. PSA fit exactly as expected. Beckett, CSG, and BCCG also fit well. The only caveat I found was that SGC slabs are noticeably tighter in the Fusion case, while they fit much more comfortably in the one-row model.
Dad’s Final Thoughts
Fun fact: PSA has graded well over 60 million collectibles, and the sports card grading hobby continues to grow as more collectors protect not only vintage cards but also modern rookies, autographs, magazines, tickets, and memorabilia.
The nice thing about Slab Armor is that they didn’t build just one case—they built a lineup. After testing both, I wouldn’t choose one because it’s “better” than the other — they simply solve two different problems, and together they make a strong lineup for graded card collectors.
