Refresh Sports Toss and Catch Ball Set Review: Does It Stick?
Gas-station paddle games haven’t exactly earned my trust. For my Refresh Sports Toss and Catch Ball Set review, I recruited my kids, adjusted the straps, and put that sticky surface through the Dad test.

Playing catch with the kids shouldn’t turn into Dad playing fetch.
As a dad of three, I’ve bought plenty of sticky paddle games that barely held onto the ball. You know, the kind of set you buy at the local gas station on the way to the beach.
This Refresh Sports Toss and Catch Ball Set review started with one question:
Would this set actually stick?
I was determined to put it through the Dad test with my 2 and 10 year old. We tried the adjustable straps, tossed the balls back and forth, and tested the grip.
Here’s what you need to know!

Pros and Cons
Here’s a quick breakdown of what Dad liked and what can be improved about this sticky baseball toss-and-catch set.
What I Liked
- The ball actually sticks. Even with fairly hard throws during my test, the catching surface grabbed the ball instead of letting it bounce away.
- Adjustable hand straps. I could fit the paddles to my adult hand and my older kids’ hands without a problem.
- An approachable introduction to catching. Kids can practice getting a paddle in front of the ball before learning to work a traditional baseball glove.
- Simple family play. My son and I played from about 10 feet apart in our living room. There wasn’t much setup standing between us and a game.
- 2 included balls. The set comes with two balls and two paddles, so we could get straight to playing catch.
Dad’s Honest Callouts
- The balls feel firmer than expected. To me, they felt slightly harder than a tennis ball, although they still had some give. Keep throws controlled, especially around younger players.
- A fitting strap doesn’t establish age suitability. My 2-year-old briefly participated during filming, but I described my set as ages 5 and up.
- Long-term grip is still an open question. The stickiness impressed me during our test, but I haven’t established how it holds up over months of family use.
Quick Verdict
The Refresh Sports toss and catch ball set passed our family Dad test. What won me over was simple: the ball stayed on the paddle, and the straps let me join my older kids without fighting the equipment. I’d recommend it for families with age-appropriate players who want a straightforward way to enjoy catch before graduating to a baseball mitt.

Dad’s 5 Key Features
Here are the five features that stood out when I put this sticky baseball game through our family Dad test.
1. A Catching Surface That Really Grabs
The biggest difference I noticed was how firmly the balls attached to the paddles. With some cheaper sets I’ve bought, even a decent throw can bounce right back off. During this test, I could throw fairly hard and still get a solid catch. That made the game feel more satisfying, because we spent more time tossing and less time chasing missed connections.
2. Adjustable Straps for Dad and the Kids
I like being able to join a kids’ game without discovering the equipment was designed for hands half my size. These straps adjusted easily, and the paddle fit my hand as well as my older kids’ hands. I also demonstrated the fit on my toddler during filming, though physical fit should never be confused with the recommended age for using a toy.
Dad Tip: Adjust the back strap for each player when you trade paddles; I showed how easily it changes between different hand sizes in the video.
3. A Starting Point Before a Baseball Mitt
A traditional baseball glove adds another thing for a beginner to figure out: closing it around the ball. What I appreciated here was the simpler goal of getting the paddle in the way. For kids who aren’t quite ready for a mitt, that gives us a playful way to practice throwing toward another person and positioning a hand for a catch.
4. Easy to Work into Family Time
My son and I played about 10 feet apart in our living room, which shows how little distance we used for our test. I could also see bringing the set outside for a backyard or park session. What I enjoyed most was the low effort involved in getting started: put on the paddles, pick up a ball, and spend a few minutes together.
Dad Tip: Our indoor test used about 10 feet of space, but the balls felt firm; choose a clear play area and start with gentle throws.
5. Fuzzy Balls with a Firmer Feel
The balls have a fuzzy surface that works with the catching pads, and they grabbed well throughout our demonstration. The feel surprised me a little: I’d put them slightly firmer than a tennis ball, though nowhere near a real baseball. They still had some cushion when squeezed. That’s useful to know before your enthusiastic young pitcher decides every throw needs major-league effort.
Dad’s Final Thoughts
Fun Fact: hook-and-loop fasteners were inspired by burrs sticking to an inventor’s clothes and his dog’s fur—nature’s original game of catch! Here’s the story.
For me, this game is a simple excuse to spend a few minutes playing with my kids. No big setup or complicated rules—just toss, catch, and a few laughs together.
