FlexiSnake Drain Weasel Review & How to Use: Dad vs. Hair Clogs

I’m not a handy Dad, but even I can pull hair out of a drain! In this FlexiSnake Drain Weasel review, I tackle a backed-up bathroom sink and shower to see whether a simple DIY fix could save time, money, and a call to the plumber. The results? Satisfying, surprisingly easy, and definitely gross.

Sometimes it’s just easier, faster, and cheaper to go the DIY route.

And that’s coming from a guy who’s not handy.

Regular clogs in our bathroom sink and shower typically have a single culprit: hair.

Liquid cleaners certainly have their job, see my review of the Green Gobbler, but if you suspect hair is clogging your drain you may want to reach for the FlexiSnake Drain Weasel, instead.

In my review, I wanted to see whether this little drain cleaning tool could get things flowing again in both our sink and shower before I considered calling a plumber.

Fair warning: the results were satisfying, but definitely not pretty. 🤢

My Quick Video Review

Here’s a quick video review of the FlexiSnake Drain Weasel. Watch me assemble the Drain Weasel, work on the bathroom sink, and show what came out of our shower.

Other products to help around the house

Here are a few other products you may want to check out:

  • 2-compartment trash can (trash AND recyclables). SONGMICS has designed the best dual trash can for kitchens that is functional and not an eyesore.
  • Keep your garage floor clean. Keeping to the cordless theme, every Dad needs this handheld leaf blower, an Amazon best-seller for a reason.
  • 2-in-1 Vacuum & Duster for vehicle. We all know crumbs come with the territory of transporting kids around. Gross. This cordless handheld car vacuum is a handy and time-saving tool!

Pros and Cons

Here’s a quick breakdown of what Dad liked, and what can be improved about this hair clog removal tool.

What I Liked

  1. The hooks grabbed a surprising amount of hair. The shower produced the biggest—and grossest—evidence that this little tool was doing its job.
  2. Assembly was straightforward. Attaching the wand and sliding the yellow locking mechanism into place took very little effort.
  3. The flexible wand reached into my sink drain. I was able to insert nearly the entire 18-inch wand during my test.
  4. Disposable wands simplified cleanup. Detaching and discarding the used wand beat picking every strand of hair out of those tiny hooks.
  5. It works! Enough said.

Dad’s Honest Callouts

  1. Cleaning the hooks is difficult. They hold onto hair extremely well, which makes the disposable design convenient—but means you’ll eventually need refills.
  2. The reach has limits. This is an 18-inch hair clog tool, so a blockage farther down the plumbing may be beyond its reach.
  3. The gross part is unavoidable. You’re physically pulling out the clog. That’s satisfying once the water drains, but the extraction won’t win any beauty contests.

Quick Verdict

The FlexiSnake Drain Weasel passed my Dad test. It restored normal drainage in my wife’s bathroom sink and pulled a surprisingly large clump of hair and buildup from our shower. For a reachable bathroom hair clog, I’d recommend it as a simple DIY option to try before arranging a plumbing visit.

Top Amazon Reviews

Don’t just take my word for it — here’s what other Amazon buyers commonly mention about the FlexiSnake Drain Weasel.

  • “Surprising amounts of hair come out” – Buyers commonly praise its hair-grabbing ability and report better drainage after removing clogs.
  • “Easy enough for a quick bathroom fix” – Ease of use stands out in buyer feedback, with some describing a job that takes about a minute.
  • “Useful, but value gets mixed reactions” – Some buyers consider it a worthwhile household tool; others think the price is high.

Unboxing – What’s Inside?

My kit included one reusable rotating handle and five disposable cleaning wands. That gave me separate wands to work on the shower and bathroom sink, with extras left for another round of drain duty.

Assembly was simple: attach a wand to the handle, slide the yellow locking mechanism into place, and you’re ready to work. No elaborate setup required.

Dad’s 5 Key Features

Here are the five features that stood out after putting the FlexiSnake Drain Weasel hair clog tool to work in our bathroom sink and shower.

1. Tiny Hooks That Actually Hold Onto Hair

The hooks are the reason this little tool earned my recommendation. Instead of pouring something down the drain and hoping for the best, I could pull the problem out and see it. Our shower delivered the most dramatic example: a large clump of hair and buildup that was every bit as unpleasant as you’re imagining. Gross evidence, but convincing evidence!

2. A Rotating Handle With Simple Setup

I didn’t need a lengthy setup session before getting started. I attached the cleaning wand, slid the yellow locking mechanism into place, and used the rotating handle to twist the wand inside the drain. That motion helps the hooks collect hair. For a household job I wasn’t particularly excited about, having a straightforward tool made getting started much easier.

Dad Tip: Slide the yellow locking mechanism into place after attaching the wand—that was part of my assembly process before twisting the handle.

3. An 18-Inch Flexible Wand

The thin, bendable wand was useful in my bathroom sink, where I could insert nearly its entire length. That gave me access to hair beyond the opening without needing a bulky tool. The important distinction is reach: this plastic drain snake gives you 18 inches to work with, so it makes sense for reachable hair buildup rather than every possible plumbing blockage.

4. Disposable Wands That Spare You the Cleanup Battle

After pulling out the clog, I discovered that getting hair back off the hooks wasn’t particularly easy. They really hang onto it! That made the disposable design feel practical rather than unnecessary. I could detach the dirty wand and throw it away instead of spending extra time untangling the exact mess I’d just worked to remove from the drain.

Dad Tip: My kit included five wands, so I used a separate wand for the sink after testing one in the shower.

5. Useful Results in Both My Sink and Shower

The sink gave me the clearest before-and-after result. Before using the Drain Weasel, roughly 20 seconds of running the faucet left standing water. Afterward, it drained normally. The shower test produced the bigger visual surprise with all the hair I removed. Those two experiences are why I’d keep this drain cleaning tool around for similar bathroom clogs.

Dad’s Final Thoughts

Fun fact: according to the American Academy of Dermatology, shedding 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal. They don’t all end up in the drain, of course, but that puts our shower’s hairy surprise into perspective.

There’s a particular kind of Dad satisfaction in solving an annoying household problem and getting on with your day. This was one of those jobs.
