I used the Full Focus Planner for 90 days — it's more than a calendar or to-do list. As a busy Dad, I loved how it helped me stay organized & productive with a goal-focused system not found in most planners. My gel pen loves it too. :)

Look, as a Dad running businesses, helping with homework, and trying to keep my fitness (and sanity), I need a productivity system that works with my life — not against it.

Though I have a pretty good system for managing tasks (simple notebook, sticky notes), it’s important to me to always be open to new systems and approaches. This is why I tried the Full Focus Planner by Michael Hyatt.

Review of the Full Focus Planner by Michael Hyatt - used for last 90 days
I committed to using this planner for the full 90 days

Since it’s a 90-day planner, I used it daily for the full 90 days to ensure I really invested in the system/approach. I used many aspects of the Full Focus Planner from roughly mid-January to mid-April in 2025.

Here’s what I used, didn’t use, and what I enjoyed the most.

Note: The Full Focus Planner comes in 2 different styles:

  1. Standard (Linen or Leather cover)
  2. Coil (Linen or Leather cover)

I decided on the coil version (linen cover) because I wanted it to lie perfectly flat.

(Note: I accidentally say “leather” instead of “linen” at the 0:19 mark, oops!)

Pros and Cons

The Full Focus Planner is more than paper and coil — it’s a system. Here’s what stood out.

What I Liked

  1. Linen Coil Binding – Lays completely flat on my desk, which makes writing and flipping pages super easy.
  2. “Daily Big 3” Structure – Forces you to prioritize instead of chasing 27 things that don’t really matter.
  3. Ideal Week Section – Helped me visualize a realistic weekly structure (even if I’m still working on actually following it!).
  4. Built-In Notes Pages – Taking meeting notes and finding them later by day? Brilliant.
  5. Quality Paper – Off-white, thick, and smooth. Makes writing actually enjoyable—even with a gel pen.

The “Daily Big 3” is the most powerful feature of the Full Focus Planner

What Can Be Improved

  1. Initial Learning Curve – It’s a bit overwhelming if you’re used to simple lists. The system takes a minute to learn.
  2. Limited Use of Calendar Features – As a digital calendar guy, I skipped this part.
  3. Better visual cues for easy flipping – I wish the planner had better visual cues for flipping to various sections easier (e.g., tiny tab, tactical difference, shift in color).
Review of the Full Focus Planner by Michael Hyatt - thickness
The planner itself has a good thickness, but not too bulky

Quick Verdict

If you’re serious about becoming more intentional with your time, especially as a Dad juggling multiple roles, the Full Focus Planner is a worthy investment. It’s helped me align tasks with actual goals, not just stay busy.

Unboxing – What’s Inside?

Opening this thing feels more like opening a productivity toolkit than a basic planner. Linen cover, thick paper, and thoughtful structure throughout. It’s a 90-day planner, so expect to replace it quarterly.

Features I Found

Using this planner felt more like using a personal assistant on paper. Here are the standout features:

Annual Goals & Goal Detail Pages

The planner starts with your big annual goals and then guides you to break them down. While I didn’t fill out mine completely, I appreciated the prompts. It gets you thinking bigger than today’s to-do list.

I didn’t spend time on the Annual Goals section, but certainly see value there!

Daily Pages with Big 3 Focus

The daily pages are where this planner shines. A clear spot for the day’s top 3 priorities, space for notes, and pre-built task categorization (done, delegate, defer, etc.) make each day feel intentional.

I love having a page opposite of the “Daily Big 3” for notetaking

At the bottom of the “Daily Big 3” pages, there are a multitude of designations/labels to help keep your tasks in check, such as:

  • Done
  • To Do
  • Delete
  • Defer
  • Delete
  • Waiting
  • Important
  • Question

I used a couple of these designations regularly — mainly “Done” & “Defer”

Ideal Week Layout

This was a mindset shift for me. It helped me sketch out how I want my week to go—from workouts to kid pickups. I haven’t followed it perfectly, but it’s helped me aim better.

The “Ideal Week” is super powerful to dream up (implementing is another thing)

Weekly Preview

Didn’t dive deep here—but I want to. This section encourages you to review what worked/didn’t each week, and plan the next. It’s like a self-coaching moment that sets up better momentum.

Though I’m mainly digital when it comes to my calendar, I did see some value in having a page dedicated to the “12-Month View“.

Review of the Full Focus Planner by Michael Hyatt - 12 month view
I’m a big Google Calendar guy, so anything paper-based takes time to see value

However, I did lose interest in the monthly calendar quickly. But, that’s just me — I’m sure it’d be helpful to many!

Quality Materials

From the paper thickness to the inspirational quotes at the top of each page, the tactile experience of this planner makes you want to use it. There’s something to be said about writing with joy.

Best Combination

Pair the Full Focus Planner with:

Dad’s Final Thoughts

Fun fact: The average person spends nearly 4.3 hours a day on their phone. Imagine channeling just a portion of that time into focused, intentional goal-setting? That’s what a great planner like this can help you do.

The Full Focus Planner isn’t magic, but it is a tool that makes magic possible. If you’re a busy Dad trying to balance work, family, health, and a little personal growth, this planner gives you the structure to actually move the needle

Just be ready to commit to the system — and give yourself a little grace if you miss a day (or three).

You got this, Dad!

Can you win at Dadhood AND everywhere else in life? I'm just crazy enough to believe we can. With the right knowledge, hacks, habits, and motivation — we can crush it ALL!
