Pros and Cons

Here’s a quick breakdown of what I liked and what could be better.

What I Liked

  • Visual Countdown – The red disk makes time literally disappear, which is perfect for kids who struggle with telling time.
  • Adjustable Sound – You can choose between silence or a gentle beep when time’s up. I like the option of both.
  • Rubberized Case – The removable silicone cover keeps it from sliding and can be swapped for different colors (see cover colors available on Amazon).
  • Simple Setup – Just turn the knob to your desired time and you’re set. Runs on a single AA battery.
  • Perfect for Routines – Helps my kids know exactly how much time they have left for breakfast, homework, or screen time.

What Can Be Improved

  • Delayed beep – There is a delayed beep after the initial beep, for some reason. I wish you could toggle that off.
  • Battery Not Included – You’ll need to have a spare AA handy.
  • Size Limitations – At 3.6 inches, it’s great for a desk or counter, but not ideal for larger rooms or classrooms. Note: Time Timer does offer larger sizes, like this 17″ analog timer.

Quick Verdict

The Time Timer MOD has quickly become a daily tool in my house. From homework sessions to morning routines, it creates structure without my nagging. If you’re a parent, especially with younger kids or kids with ADHD, this is one of those tools you’ll wish you had years ago.

Features I Found

The Time Timer looks simple, but there are some smart features packed into this little gadget.

Visual Countdown Disk

The disappearing red disk is the heart of the Time Timer. Kids don’t have to read numbers or calculate minutes — they just see how much time is left. This is especially helpful for my daughter during homework when 20 minutes feels like an eternity.

Adjustable Alert

You can switch the sound off or let it beep when time’s up. Personally, I like the beep for screen time—it gives a clear, non-negotiable signal.

Dad Tip: Leave the beep on, thank me later.

Rubberized Silicone Cover

The soft silicone case not only makes it slip-proof, but also customizable. My kids love swapping covers (you can get extra colors), which adds a bit of fun. It also protects it from the inevitable bumps when it gets knocked off the counter.

Great for Kids with ADHD

The Time Timer isn’t just for routines — it’s an assistive tool that helps kids with ADHD and autism manage transitions. My kids love not having to hear me constantly say, “5 more minutes.” They can see it for themselves, which lowers stress for all of us.

Dad Tip: I still like to give a 1 minute warning.

Portable and Compact

At just 3.6 inches, the Time Timer MOD is small enough to toss into a backpack but big enough to sit on the kitchen counter and keep everyone on schedule.

Best Complementary Products

Here are a few complementary products you may be interested in pairing with the Time Timer:

  • Soft Silicone Removable Cover – Switch up the color!
  • MaxGear Weekly Dry Erase Board for Fridge – Great for pairing visual schedules with time tracking.
  • Bedtime/Morning Routine Checklist – Helps reinforce routines alongside timed tasks.

Dad’s Final Thoughts

Fun fact: The concept of a visual timer dates back to early classroom tools in the 20th century, designed to help kids transition between subjects. Today, Time Timer has modernized it with style and portability.

As a dad, I can honestly say this product makes family life smoother. Instead of constant reminders (and nagging), the Time Timer gives my kids ownership of their time. It’s not just a gadget—it’s a sanity saver.

If your mornings, homework sessions, or screen time are a daily struggle, this might be the best investment you make this year.

You got this, Dad!

Can you win at Dadhood AND everywhere else in life? I'm just crazy enough to believe we can. With the right knowledge, hacks, habits, and motivation — we can crush it ALL!
