If you grew up in the 80s, and you like Rock music, there’s a good chance you listened to Motley Crue.

And you’re probably here because you either love Motley Crue and/or looking for a unique Halloween costume that rocks!

Mötley Crüe is an iconic American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1981. Known for their wild behavior, heavy metal sound, and hits like “Dr. Feelgood” and “Girls, Girls, Girls,” the band, led by Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, and Mick Mars, defined 1980s glam metal.

Why I dressed up like Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue

Dressing up for Halloween is a super dad hack for having fun and inspiring creativity with your kids! Having fun is #16 on my list of healthy dad goals. Also, my wife loves fun too and enjoys a well-planned Halloween costume.

On our very first Halloween together, I dressed up like Nikki Sixx from Motley Crew and she was an 80s party girl.

Around this particular Halloween, I was also inspired by “The Dirt” (trailer below) released on Netflix in 2019. The movie/documentary was based on the book The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, by ghostwriter Neil Strauss.

Why is Dad so weird?

Someday kids you’ll understand.

Full listing of Items to Buy

Here’s a quick listing of products to help you look as close to (young) Nikki Sixx as possible.

Don’t miss a full detailed breakdown of each piece, along with tips, below the listing.

Steps to assemble Nikki Sixx costume

Here’s a step-by-step walk-through for each part of a Nikki Sixx costume.

1. Hair Wig

Nailing the hair is probably the most important aspect of the costume. Make sure it’s black and stands straight up, classic 80s hairband style. The bigger and more ridiculous, the better your costume. This one below fits awesome and comes with a cap for a snug fit and prevents itchiness!

Costume Tip

Wear the cap that goes under the wig, it’ll be more comfortable and help absorb some of the sweat. Cause, wigs are hot.

2. Pants

You have some options with pants based upon preference. Black leather, black tights, or something flashy like the pink zebra pants I chose. I went for it and had no regrets! I’ve also added another option below if pink isn’t your thing.

Costume Tip

Get something tight and stretchy.

3. Shirt (lots of holes)

This will take some fun with scissors. Simply get a basic v-neck black t-shirt and start shredding it. The more holes the better!

4. Eyeliner

If you have a wife/girlfriend/sister, you may not need to buy anything here. But, here’s some good black liquid eyeliner pen with a brush for “easy” application.

Costume Tip

Make sure you apply the eyeliner thick, as in the lines are thick. Be dramatic!

5. Lipstick

Again, if you have a female to borrow from, find the reddest color and go ham. Otherwise, this “vampire” red matte lipstick from Ruby Kisses will be exactly what you want.

6. EyeBlack

If you’re a sports Dad, you may have eyeblack lying around somewhere already. If not, here’s a quality brand below.

7. Bracelets

This was definitely a part of the costume I slacked on. But, if you want more details, having a few punk/goth bracelets will make even Nikki Sixx himself smile with approval.

8. Earrings

Again, I slacked on the jewelry. But, when/if I wear this Nikki Sixx costume again, I’ll certainly be buying these clip-on earrings to get more flashy.

9. Fake Tattoos (sleeve)

You have some flexibility here to get tatted up. I envisioned an arm sleeve that was super colorful with a weird design. These animal sleeve tattoos did the trick. I also provided another option below with abstract designs.

Costume Tip

Long arm sleeves tattoos are pretty difficult to apply yourself, so ask for help! If you don’t want the mess of fake tattoos, check out these slip on arm sleeves. From a distance, especially at night, I’m sure they’ll look like real tattoos!

10. Shoes/Boots

I didn’t wear any special shoes with my outfit. But, if you want to go all out, get some black rocker/goth boots. Here are a few below. Some are very pricey, but they may be the dramatic detail you desire to fully complete this Nikki Sixx costume!

Dad’s Final Thoughts

Every Dad needs to be an 80s hairband rock star for at least one Halloween.

Enjoy the details, especially the red lipstick! 🙂

You got this, Dad!

Can you win at Dadhood AND everywhere else in life? I'm just crazy enough to believe we can. With the right knowledge, hacks, habits, and motivation — we can crush it ALL!
